'Ghostbusters' - Film Review

Released : 15th July 2016
Directed By : Paul Feig

Talk about GIRL POWER! Oh yeah! Totally loving this all female lead casting, for this remake of the 1984 comedy classic. This is such a big leap for all the women within the film industry, and just proves how Hollywood is developing. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones make up this phenomenal team and put their own amusing flare on the characters they play. Each role is key to the films narrative development and comedic genre and so I feel that the casting deserves a big thumbs up!

The story follows two childhood friends and paranormal enthusiasts Abby and Erin(McCarthy and Wiig) as they reunite in adult life and rekindle their interest together in the investigation of ghosts. Joined by Jillian (McKinnon) the brains behind all the equipment and 'ghost capturing' technology, they begin their pursuit of paranormal spirits around New York City. When called in by Patty (Jones) to investigate a ghost sighting in the Underground, the group successfully captures their first ghost! Patty then continues to join the group proving herself useful with her knowledge of New York and it's history, and so with the group now complete, the 'Ghostbusters' begin their search for the paranormal.

Colour plays a really big part in this film with green ghosts and neon orange lasers, it really adds an energetic tone to the film. These colours majorly contrast to the settings used as some are very dark and dingy, thus adding to the films depth and reality. The soundtrack has been revamped for the modern day audience and adds a powerful kick to the films action scenes. Cameos and references to the original are made throughout, paying a respectful homage to the franchise.

However I must admit that I found some of the puns and jokes to be overused and dated, which is disappointing with a cast as able as this. Also some effects are blatantly CGI but I suppose thats all to do with the films style. On the whole, I did enjoy this film, and I feel as though many would, as it's easy to follow and easy to watch. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either!

Until next time,
Charlotte.
