'Me Before You' - Film Review

Released : June 3rd 2016
Directed by : Thea Sharrock.
Based on the book of the same title by Jojo Moyes.
(There shall be no spoilers in this post)

Prepare yourselves! This film gets emotional! We follow the story of young quirky girl Lou (Emilia Clarke) as she starts her new job as a carer for the recently disabled, action-man Will (Sam Claflin). Although their opposing personalities clash at first, they soon find a middle ground, and Lou is determined to change Will's stubborn mind and prove to him that life is worth living!

The quality acting really carries this film, both performances from Clarke and Claflin really add to the drama and definition of this film. Both roles are played incredibly well, and you've got to give credit to the director on that part too. The supporting cast featuring Joanna Lumley and Brendan Coyle also increase this films 'star' quality. First-time filmmaker Thea Shamrock does put her own stamp on the films style, with some lovely pull-focus shots and sequences.

Jojo Moyes, the author of the book on which the film is based, also wrote the films screenplay, and although the film does match the initial plot of the film, I feel as though the film lacks emotional diversity and more bursts of excitement are needed throughout. Despite this however, the big climax at the end of the film, when the emotional outpour really begins, hits you right in the feels, and I had to fetch my tissues out of my bag.

So overall, an enjoyable yet intense film! If you're a fan of drama and films such as 'P.S. I Love You' then you're in for a real treat here! 'Me Before You' now showing in cimenas.

Until next time,
Charlotte.
